End of an Era
While cleaning the kids' bathroom this morning, I noticed the green plastic bucket of bathtub toys sitting dejectedly behind the door. They haven't been touched in weeks. Ben has officially graduated to showers. I sifted through them, picking out the Legos and Playmobiles, and ceremoniously dumped the rest into the garbage can. Good bye rubber ducky, shark squirt gun, frog and pig squirty things, small plastic animals and race cars, coated with soap scum! I'll miss the days of giggly bubble baths, sitting by the tub to make sure they don't drown, and small, damp, warm children wrapped in thick bath towels. We've moved on to steam filled rooms, clingy, drippy shower curtains, pounding on the door to hurry it up or you'll use all the hot water. Fortunately Brad installed a new shower head in the kids' bathroom so they no longer beg to use our shower.

Now that's just sad. You're too young to be done with this stage of life. There's NOTHING better than the smell of a freshly-bathed, pajama-clad kid snuggling up with you before bed. You're gonna have to go borrow some babies until your kids get around to giving you grandkids. :-)
ReplyDeleteIf you really miss it all that much feel free to come and bathe my boys anytime! Ha! I was actually thinking about this the other day, wondering when Hyrum would be old enough to take a shower by himself. I'm sure he could stand there okay but wash his own body and hair??? I'm not too sure about that. Maybe he'll have to wait a few more years. The tub is sure crowded though with his super long legs!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to cleaning the tub because it's the only time I get to take a shower with out toys! (What happens when you only have one bathroom) I'm a bit envious of your milestone!
ReplyDeleteBath toys are a funny thing. They're so much fun, and yet sometimes I find myself horrified that I'm trying to clean my son in the same water as the toys that just never really come clean. But he sure loves his time in the bath with his toys, so I guess we'll keep letting him have them! :0)
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the truth. You kind of miss it and you kind of don't. I guess each stage has it's good points. The only thing is sometimes I get a cold shower. Where I used to bathe them in one bath or let them play for like an hour.....I know terrible. I'm not sure which I like best, but I guess that is besides the point. Showers are the wave of my future too:)
ReplyDeleteThat really is the end of an era, Jenny! I've been gradually paring down the bath toys over the past couple of years. I think we're down to 2 boats. I think I'll keep them no matter what just for when little cousins are here to visit. It would make me too sad to not have bath toys in the house!
