Patello-Femoral Syndrome
I've got a classic case of this, a.k.a. this. I was interested to read that it's more common in adolescents, since I thought the reason I have it was because I'm getting older. Also interesting to read that "patients often note going up or down stairs worsens the problem" and "Many times there is a recent history of increased physical activity (i.e. running)." Yep. Both of those are spot on. My doctor referred me to a physical therapist (where's my brother, Scott, when I need him?!) and told me not to run more than 3 miles at a time, with one or two days rest inbetween, which is a bummer since I finally got back to 5 miles today! Hopefully I will be able to strengthen my VMO muscle and get back on track.

Oh! I had this--and after doing the exercises for a few months, I strengthened the necessary muscles to the point where it disappeared. It hasn't bothered me since--this was about 10 years ago, so hopefully the same will happen for you.
