Sick

'I cannot go to school today, '
Said little Peggy Ann McKay.
'I have the measles and the mumps,
A gash, a rash and purple bumps.
My mouth is wet, my throat is dry,
I'm going blind in my right eye.
My tonsils are as big as rocks,
I've counted sixteen chicken pox
And there's one more-that's seventeen,
And don't you think my face looks green?
My leg is cut-my eyes are blue-
It might be instamatic flu.
I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke,
I'm sure that my left leg is broke-
My hip hurts when I move my chin,
My belly button's caving in,
My back is wrenched, my ankle's sprained,
My 'pendix pains each time it rains.
My nose is cold, my toes are numb.
I have a sliver in my thumb.
My neck is stiff, my voice is weak,
I hardly whisper when I speak.
My tongue is filling up my mouth,
I think my hair is falling out.
My elbow's bent, my spine ain't straight,
My temperature is one-o-eight.
My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear,
There is a hole inside my ear.
I have a hangnail, and my heart is-what?
What's that? What's that you say?
You say today is...Saturday?
G'bye, I'm going out to play! '

OK, I'm not THAT sick, but I do gasp and wheeze and cough and choke, and I barely whisper when I speak, and my nose is all stuffed up, and my body aches, and I have a fever and chills.

I denied that it's the flu, since I did get a flu shot last Wednesday, but maybe it didn't have time to kick in, because those symptoms sure sound like the flu when I list them.  Although they didn't all hit at once like they say the flu does.  It started gradually on Tuesday with that itchy feeling in the back of my throat and progressed to not being able to get out of bed yesterday afternoon.  Maybe I shouldn't have taken the girls bathing suit shopping yesterday morning...it really did me in!

Fortunately, Brad is working from home today, so he got the boys off to school (the girls have been home for the past three days because of parent/teacher conferences) and he's taking good care of things so I can rest.  As long as I keep pumping in the Advil Cold and Sinus pills and Delsym cough syrup, I'll survive!

Really!? Is this really possible? Your HUSBAND is taking care of things at home while you REST!?

Don't you mean to say that he's moping around the house, grouchy for no apparent reason? Or that he's hinting heavily that you're really not THAT sick and, by the way, what's for dinner?

Normally, I would wish a friend a quick recovery. But with a guy like that around, I say stay sick and enjoy it!

  2. I didn't even know you were sick! Why didn't you tell me when I talked to you this evening? You sounded alittle different but I thought it was the cold you still had. I'm so sorry you were feeling so bad. Love you, MOM
