Cousin Time!

My sister Corey and her husband Jeff celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary this past weekend and their two boys (Hyrum, 3, and Jonah, 10 mos.) stayed overnight with us! It's been a long time since I've had a baby in the house overnight!

Jonah's still nursing, and he didn't want to have much to do with me when I tried to put him to bed. I obviously couldn't give him what he wanted, and the bottle I offered was not an acceptable substitute! We ended up going on a car ride together at 11:30 pm, which helped him calm down and fall asleep. When he woke up around 4:30 am, I swear he took one look at me and thought "Oh no! It wasn't a bad dream...she's still here!" Fortunately he let me cuddle him and he fell back asleep for a few hours, then after he was up and ate breakfast, Jillian sat on the couch with him and he fell asleep for a four hour nap. Jillian was a great helper!

Hyrum had a wonderful time because I let him play Barbies and even take them to bed with him. (Sorry, Jeff!) Hyrum loves Jillian and follows her around everywhere. Ben's a close second.

  1. I still can't believe that he took a 4 hour nap for you! He's NEVER done that! I guess he probably had a hard time sleeping at night and needed to make up some lost time. Either that or he's like me and when he doesn't want to face something, sleep is the best way to put it off. I'm sorry that he didn't adapt very well to you. I guess I expected too much from him. Thanks again for watching the boys!

  2. I didn't mean to make it sound like a negative experience! Overall we had a great time together and Jonah is very sweet. He just wasn't used to me trying to put him to bed. I'm sure when he's weaned it will be much easier. We'd love to have them again. The kids love spending time with their cousins, and I think it's great to build those relationships.

  3. Cousin time is so great - both the good and the bad. All of our siblings have lots of kids, so when we get 2 (or, shudder, more) families together, it is KID CENTRAL! Drives me a bit batty, but the kids eat it up! I just have to keep telling myself that they're making good memories (and the house will be clean again when they all leave. :-)
