Easter

Happy Easter!

Jillian and Ben aren't too old to dye eggs.  This year, we got some very interesting ones...I'm not really sure how some of them turned out the way they did, like the orange-ish one in the front middle.  But they're cool looking!

Brad made a delicious crepe breakfast with all sorts of toppings...strawberries, bananas, chocolate fudge sauce, whipping cream, lemon juice, powdered sugar, and syrup.  I had to eat several just to try out all the flavors!

The Easter Bunny hides the baskets, but Ben and Jillian don't have much trouble finding them anymore.

We had family over for Easter dinner.  Between my siblings and Brad's siblings there are 30 grandkids, so this is only about 1/3 of them. They were really excited for the Easter Egg hunt!

This is about how fast it felt it took them to find all the eggs!

Honey

This is the time of year we usually have to order a new box of bees since ours have died over the winter.  But not this year!  We harvested our first jar of honey this weekend!  We've had a warm, early Spring and the hive is exploding.  Brad went out to check on the bees and found the box full of honey already.  He pulled out this frame to harvest and put another box on.  We're going to have a bumper crop this year!  I can't wait!  It's been several years since we've been able to harvest.

Spring Break hike

We stayed home for Spring Break this year since we went to Solvang and Santa Barbara for Mid-Winter Break (maybe I'll get around to posting those pictures sometime...) Monday we went to the Tulip Festival, Tuesday and Wednesday we hung out at home and Ben played with a friend, and Thursday Ben and I went on a hike.  We started at the Forest to Sky trail head and then continued through Battlepoint Park to the Ferry Dell trail down to the beach.

Ben asked if we could try geocaching, so I downloaded the app and discovered there was a cache at Battlepoint right along our route.  It took us a little while to figure out the whole compass/GPS thing, but after roaming around in the bushes for a while, we eventually we found our first cache! The search and discovery was much more satisfying than what was actually inside the cache, just a bunch of miscellaneous trinkets and a notepad to record our name and the date.

Lovely trees at Battlepoint

The Fairy Dell trail really feel like a fairy land!

The sun was out down at the beach so we poked around for a while.  The tide was out and the beach was extremely mucky, but Ben enjoyed racing pistachio shells in the little stream that ran through it.

After we got home, we looked up another near-by cache and walked down to the pocket park across the highway.  This one was much harder to find, partly because it was so small (yes, Ben is holding it in his hand), but we prevailed!
